Access Points FAQ
What are Access Points?
Access Points are points that you earn by doing a variety of things designed to help you to succeed, have fun, and build connections with the Salt Lake business community.
What can I use Access Points for?
The main benefit of Access Points is the connections you'll build and the things you'll learn while earning them. The goal of the program is to prompt you to do things that will benefit you. Additional benefits include:
- Earn bragging rights by getting on our weekly and monthly leader boards. (We'll link to your profile if it's complete enough.)
- Exchange points with other members in return for whatever you want...as long as it's legal!
- Earn badges for completing specific groups of actions.
- Coming soon: Redeem them for Access merchandise.
- Coming soon: Redeem them for discounts and other benefits at Partner Businesses.
How do I get started with Access Points?
The first steps (details for each can be found below below) are:
- If you have an Android device, install the Access Salt Lake app. (iPhone users, see below.)
- Sign in or create an account.
- Accept the Access Points program's Terms of Participation.
Once you've completed those steps, you can start earning Access Points.
How can I earn Access Points?
If you haven't already, complete the steps listed above under "How do I get started with Access Points?"
Then, do things designed to expand your business network and develop your skills, and use the app or website to record it. For example:
- Connect with another member.
- Earn bonus points by answering a trivia question about them.
- Check in at Access or an Access Partner location.
- Attend an Access Salt Lake event.
- Complete your Access Salt Lake online profile.
- Every Tuesday is Triple Points Tuesday!
How do I install the app?
Download the Access Salt Lake app from the Google Play store. If you have an iPhone, you can use this website in Safari or another web browser instead. (Android users can use the website too, but the app will work better for you and use less mobile data.) We will release an iOS version of the app in the future.
How do I sign in or create an account?
In the app
If you already have an account on AccessSaltLake.com, tap the lock icon at the bottom of the app to sign in. If you don't know your password, you can use the "Forgot Password" link on the login screen to have a new one emailed to you.
If you don't have an account yet, tap the "Create Account" icon in the lower right corner of the app to go to the registration page. (If the registration form tells you that you already have an account, go to the log in screen and tap "Forgot Password" to have a password emailed to you.)
On the website
If you already have an account, you'll be prompted to sign in as soon as you attempt to do anything that requires you to be signed in. Or you can sign in here.
How do I accept the Terms of Participation?
In the app
If you are not already on the "Earn Access Points" screen, tap the "E" icon in the lower left corner of the app. Then tap "Access Points Terms of Participation" to review the program's terms. The terms will be displayed in a web browser. You may agree to the terms on that page if you wish, which will require signing into the website. Or you may return to the app and accept the terms there.
On the website
Go to the Access Points Terms of Participation page, review the terms, and click the checkbox to accept. If you are not already signed in, you will be prompted to sign in when you click the checkbox.
How do I check in at Access Salt Lake, an Access Partner, or an event?
In the app
Tap the pin icon at the top of the app to go to the check in screen. Then continue with the steps below.
To view a map of Access Partners near you, tap the pin and map icon near the top of the screen.
On the website
Checking in using the website only works on a mobile device, since the device camera is needed to scan a QR code.
Click "Check In" in the submenu above to go to the check in screen. Then continue with the steps below.

In either the app or the website
To check in for Access Points, find the Access Points QR code at the location where you are checking in. It will be on a card that looks like this:
Then, tap the "Scan" button on the check in screen, and use your phone's camera to scan the QR code.
Is there anything I should do before connecting with other members?
You can start connecting with other members as soon as you've accepted the Terms of Participation. But you'll earn more Points and build stronger connections if you do a few things to prepare.
Fill out your profile
You may wish to add a few things to your Access Profile so that those you connect with can find out more about you. As an added benefit, you can earn Access Points for having a complete enough profile.
Select your gender in your profile
Before you start connecting with other members, you may wish to select your gender in your Access Profile, and adjust your privacy settings so that your gender is visible at least to signed in members. When two people connect who have both done this, each earns extra points for their first connection each day to a person of each gender.
Create some bonus questions about yourself
The final preparatory step is to create some bonus questions for people to answer about you. Tap the "Connect" icon in the upper right corner of the app, or the connect link in the submenu above, and then tap "Edit your bonus questions" below the QR code.
Use the "+" icon (in the app), or "Add a question" (on the website) to add a question. The more questions you have, the better, because each person you connect with can answer each question once every 30 days. More questions = more points when you connect with the same person multiple times a month.
For each question, add a question, one correct answer, and three incorrect answers. Tap the radio button next to the correct answer.
When you're done adding questions, tap the green check mark at the bottom of the app to save your changes. (On the website, you'll edit one question at a time, clicking "Save" to save your changes.)
Your questions can be fun facts about yourself, information about your business, or any other good conversation starter.
How do I connect with other members?
To connect with another member, tap the "Connect" icon in the upper right corner of the app, or, on the website, click "Connect" in the submenu above. (Connecting using the website only works on a mobile device, since the device camera is needed to scan a QR code.) When the other member is on the same screen, one of you will tap the "Scan" button and use their phone's camera to scan the other's QR code. Then the other person will do the same.
Once you have both scanned each other's QR codes, you will either see a bonus question or a message stating that the connection is complete. You do not have to answer the bonus question to get points for connecting, but you both get extra points when either of you answers a question correctly.
To answer a question, tap the answer that you think is correct. If you are correct, it will turn green, and you will get points. If you are incorrect, it will turn red. You can keep going till you get the correct answer -- there are no penalties for incorrect answers.
How do I view a list of my recent connections?
To see a list of your most recent connections, with links to their Access Profiles, tap the "Connect" icon in the upper right corner of the app, or, on the website, click "Connect" in the submenu above. Then tap the "Recent connections" link under the QR code.
How can I become an Access Partner Business?
Businesses and professionals can participate in the Access Points program in two ways: as Office Hours providers, and as Access Partners.
Access Partner Businesses benefit by joining our network, bringing you more foot traffic and awareness amongst participants in the Access Points program.
